Baptism

In the Sacrament of Baptism we celebrate God's initiative in calling and claiming us. It is a visible sign of the wonder and blessing of God's grace, a witness of the church's faith and a celebration of the work of the spirit. In baptism we respond to the grace and love of God shown forth through Jesus Christ.

In the United Church of Canada, the Sacrament of Baptism happens within the context of a worshipping community that welcomes the newly baptized person, promising to support and walk with them in their faith journey. Through baptism, people, regardless of age, become full members in the Christian Community.

At Royal York Road United Church, we ask that when seeking baptism of a child at least one parent be a member of the United Church of Canada. If you as a parent have not been baptized or renewed your baptismal vows, it is appropriate and wonderfully symbolic for you to reaffirm your own faith as you bring your child for baptism, acknowledging your commitment as a family to follow the call of God in your life.

Baptism at Royal York Road United

If you are not a member of this congregation, we invite you to begin worshipping with us to see if this is the faith community in which you would like to bring up your child. After you indicate your desire to have your child baptized, you will meet with other like-minded parents and the minister. Parents, godparents (if any) and the congregation will repeat vows expressing commitment to helping your child grow in the faith.
