Children’s programs
The goal of our Church School program is to introduce children to the Bible in a chronological fashion over a three year period in an engaging, relevant, interactive manner. Our primary goal is that, over the course of a child’s Church School experience, they will have completed the three year cycle three times, giving them, hopefully, a good sense of the chronology of the Bible and an awareness of the major stories of our faith.
Lesson planning is based on the belief that children grow best in their faith through experiential learning, based on a Biblical Story. Each week the children read or hear a story from an age-appropriate Bible and then spend time with their teacher wondering about the story, rather than trying to find the absolute, pre-determined truth about the passage. The class then proceeds with an interactive activity which, if one were looking in from the outside, might seem like nothing but fun. However, there is always a “truth” about the passage contained therein.
This year we welcome back a teaching team that has been with us for several years, offering classes to ages 3-5, grades 1-3 and 4-8.
Our Church School this year begins with the fascinating story of Queen Esther and the origins of the Jewish celebration of Purim. We’ll explore some other great Old Testament characters like Job and Daniel and also look at the Psalms and Proverbs to find wisdom for living out our faith. Our adults will be reading the same texts in worship to allow for lunchtime discussion about your faith as a family.
We are asking all families, even if they have been with us for years, to register so we can ensure all of the information in our computer database is up to date.
Join us for our family service and barbeque on September 18th and pick up a joint registration form for Church School and our choirs. Regular classes begin on September 25th.
In addition to our Church School, we have a Cherub Choir (ages 3 - 6) and a Junior Choir (ages 7 - 12) under the direction of our Music Director, Douglas Brownlee. The Resource Centre has books for children that bring Bible stories to life, while others help them through some of life's 'unfair' times.
